Densifier is a liquid that soaks into concrete and reacts with free lime to form hard crystals inside the pores. The slab becomes denser, less dusty and more resistant to abrasion, and it accepts a higher polish.
We choose a lithium, sodium or potassium silicate based on the slab, the timing and the finish. It is applied after initial grinding and often again later in the process.
Why it matters
A harder slab polishes to a better shine and keeps it longer. Densifier also reduces dusting from raw concrete and helps resist wear and some stains.
Application
The slab must be clean and open. Densifier is sprayed and worked in, kept wet for a set time, then wiped or burnished. Over-application can leave residue, so the technique matters.

From first call to finished floor.
The steps for densifier & hardener, in the order they happen.
- 01
Open the surface
Initial grinding clears pores.
- 02
Apply densifier
Sprayed and worked in evenly.
- 03
Dwell and clean
Left to react and cleaned.
- 04
Continue polishing
Finer grits bring up the shine.
Is it right for your floor?
A good fit when
- Your slab is soft or dusty
- You want a higher shine
- You are polishing, grinding and sealing
- You want better abrasion resistance
Worth knowing
- It will not fix cracks or flatness
- Slabs that are very dense take it more slowly
- Excess product can leave residue
- It is not a stain guard on its own
Good questions about densifier & hardener.
What is the difference between lithium and sodium?
They are different silicates. Lithium is popular for its stability and low risk of residue; sodium and potassium also work well in many cases.
Does densifier add a coating?
No. It works inside the concrete.
Is it needed for every floor?
It is a key step in nearly every polish.
