Concrete Overlays and Resurfacing by Mirror Finish Concrete

Sometimes a slab is too damaged, too uneven or too patched to polish well. A thin cementitious overlay creates a new, smooth surface over the old one, and many overlays can be polished, stained or sealed.

We prepare the base, apply the overlay, cure it and then finish it. We also tell you honestly when polishing the existing slab will do and an overlay is not necessary.

How overlays work

Overlays bond to a prepared slab. They can be self-leveling or hand-troweled, in thicknesses from a feather edge to a fraction of an inch. Bond depends on preparation and moisture.

Polishing an overlay

Polishable overlays are made with cement and fine aggregates that grind well. Look and gloss differ from a natural slab, and we show samples first.

Be honest about fit

Is it right for your floor?

A good fit when

  • Your slab is rough, pitted or very patchy
  • You want a uniform, clean look
  • You need to level small dips
  • You want a new color base

Worth knowing

  • Moisture can break the bond
  • Overlays can crack where the slab does
  • They add thickness at doors and thresholds
  • Color differs from natural concrete
Questions

Good questions about overlays & resurfacing.

Is an overlay always needed?

No. Many slabs polish fine as they are.

Will the overlay crack?

It can follow the slab cracks. We plan joints accordingly.

Can an overlay be polished?

Many can. Choose a polishable product.
