Grinding is where every good floor starts. Diamond segments on heavy planetary machines cut away the top film of the slab, removing paint, adhesive, sealer and shallow stains, and leveling small high spots.
We select the diamond bond and grit for the slab, from aggressive metal bonds on hard concrete to softer bonds on soft concrete, and use dust extraction so the work stays clean.
Choosing the cut
Hard slabs need soft-bond diamonds that wear away to expose fresh cutting edges. Soft slabs need hard-bond diamonds that do not gouge. Getting this match right avoids swirl marks and saves time.
What grinding can and cannot do
Grinding removes thin coatings and levels slightly high areas. It does not fix deep damage or large dips. Those need patching or an overlay, which we discuss before work starts.

The steps for diamond grinding, in the order they happen.
- 01
Test and select diamonds
Hardness tests help us pick the right tooling.
- 02
Coarse grind
Coatings and high spots are removed.
- 03
Refine the scratch
Finer diamonds smooth the surface.
- 04
Clean and inspect
The slab is vacuumed and checked.
Is it right for your floor?
A good fit when
- You want to polish, seal or coat concrete
- You have an old coating, glue or paint to remove
- Your slab has minor high spots or lippage
- You need a clean profile for a new finish
Worth knowing
- It cannot fill deep holes
- Very thick coatings take longer
- Dust control equipment is essential
- Over-grinding can expose too much aggregate
Good questions about diamond grinding.
Is grinding the same as polishing?
Grinding is the early, coarse stage. Polishing continues with finer grits after densifying.
Will grinding expose stones?
It can. We control depth to reach the look you want.
Is it dusty?
We use dust extraction to keep it clean.
