Acid stain is a mild acidic solution containing metallic salts. It reacts with the concrete to form translucent, variegated color, usually in earthy browns, tans, reds and blue-greens.
Because the reaction depends on the slab, every floor is unique. Stain is often combined with polishing or sealing to give a soft sheen and protect the color.
What to expect
Color is a surprise to a degree. Cracks, trowel marks, patches and variations show as part of the pattern. Samples on your own slab help set expectations.
Finishing
After staining, the slab is neutralized, cleaned and sealed or polished. A sealer deepens the color and protects the surface.

Good questions about acid staining.
Can I choose any color?
Acid stains come in a limited earthy range. For bold colors, dye is the better option.
Will repairs show?
Often yes, as part of the pattern.
Is it durable?
The color is in the concrete. A sealer protects the surface.
