Flat vs level
Flat means no local bumps or waves. Level means no overall slope. They are different.
How they are measured
Straightedges and level instruments or industry numbers. Specs depend on use.
Why gloss shows flaws
Reflections bend over waves. A glossy floor makes small errors visible.
Corrections
Grinding high spots. Self-leveling for dips. Overlays for larger problems.
Why gloss reveals waves
High sheen reflects lines from windows and lights, so slight waves in the slab look more obvious than they do on a matte floor.
Fixing it
Grinding can remove small high spots, and self-leveling or patch products can fill low areas. Large corrections cost more time, and we say so before you commit.
Set realistic expectations
A floor poured and finished to a normal standard will not look like glass sheet. A well-polished floor still shows the character of the slab.
Quick answers
Do I need a flatness spec?
For guided equipment or high-gloss showrooms, it helps.
Can any slab be made flat?
Most can be improved.
