Compare the scope
Number of grinding steps, final grit, densifier, guard, repairs and exposure level should be spelled out. A cheaper quote may skip steps.
Compare the prep
Crack and joint repair, coating removal and moisture testing should be included or clearly excluded.
Compare the protection
Dust control, protection of property and cleanup matter.
Compare the follow-up
Care instructions, maintenance and who to call after.
Same scope, same finish
Quotes are only comparable when they list the same number of steps, the same final grit, the same densifier and guard, and the same preparation and repairs. A lower number often leaves something out.
What to ask when numbers differ
Ask each contractor to explain what is included for crack repair, coating removal, edges and corners, dust control and cleanup. Differences usually come from here.
A simple comparison checklist
Write down the finish you want, the area, the preparation items and the schedule. Use the same list for every quote, then compare line by line.
Quick answers
Why is one quote much lower?
Often fewer steps or less prep. Ask.
